Blaenau Gwent

Business parks

business-parks

In 2021, we were awarded a supply contract by the Welsh Government to develop the solution for energy and flexibility trading in Business Parks, specifically focusing on the County Borough of Blaenau Gwent in South Wales.

Partners include Wales & West Utilities and carbonTRACK UK.

We undertook an initial appraisal earlier this year (March to April 2021) and identified several business parks that would provide us with the archetypes or uses that we can replicate elsewhere in the County Borough.

We selected these parks based on a mix of public and private ownership, different uses and sizes (so we can cover the full breath and range), and also where some existing renewables may exist, so we support the use of these in local and national energy markets and maximise revenues.

Main aim and intentions

01

To embrace and accelerate the transition to smart energy by developing innovative energy trading solutions which support energy supply, demand and storage.

02

To develop cross-sector partnerships with government, business and householders to trade energy.

03

Scale to other places in Wales and to spread benefits of One Wales’ wider goals of wellbeing, alleviating fuel poverty, focussing on economic prosperity and the ambition for the Welsh public sector to be carbon neutral by 2030.

04

Support leadership with addressing the climate impact of government’s own operations

05

Optimise decarbonisation pathways for the business parks and thereby the county borough.
